ABOUT NO MEAN CITY
The Story Behind No Mean City Whisky
Born from a desire to bring something fresh to the world of Scotch whisky, No Mean City Whisky was founded with a clear vision: to create a modern and versatile blended Scotch that could stand out in a competitive market. Our founder, with over 20 years of experience in the industry, saw a gap—something more adaptable for today’s whisky enthusiasts. After three years of development, the dream became a reality through a unique collaboration with Ian Macleod Distillers, the esteemed creators behind iconic names such as Glengoyne, Tamdhu, and Smokehead.
With Ian Macleod’s expertise guiding the blending process, the goal was to craft a whisky that not only respected traditional Scotch values but also embraced a contemporary edge. The result is a perfect balance—smooth and sophisticated enough to be enjoyed neat as a dram, yet bold and versatile enough to shine in cocktails. This adaptability has placed No Mean City Whisky at the forefront of a new wave of Scotch that reflects the spirit of modern whisky drinkers.
The heart of our whisky is deeply rooted in Glasgow. Our founder, a proud Glaswegian, made it a priority to weave the city’s rich heritage into the fabric of the brand. The name and inspiration come from the famous 1935 novel No Mean City, which portrayed the resilience and grit of Glasgow’s working-class life during the 1920s. The brand was born to capture the city’s incredible transformation—evolving from its industrial past into the vibrant, creative, and resilient city we know today. While Glasgow has changed, its enduring spirit of strength, grit, and vision remains constant, and that’s the essence we’ve bottled.
No Mean City Whisky is more than just a drink; it’s a tribute to those who push boundaries, to the bold and the brave. From the gritty streets of Glasgow to its forward-thinking culture, our whisky embodies the spirit of the city, a blend of tradition and innovation.
